ANGEL FLOREZ (From The NEW Mickey Mouse Club Funbook, Copyright © 1977, Walt Disney Productions.)

When an enthusiastic eight-year-old won a talent contest at Shakey's Pizza Parlor in Hawaiian Gardens, California, no one guessed that in four years he would be performing with the New Mouseketeers. But that's what happened to Angel. His eagerness to sing, dance and perform prompted his parents to enroll him in formal dancing lessons two years ago. Now he's singing and dancing for the "New Mickey Mouse Club". Angel is the comic of the group, entertaining his fellow Mouseketeers with impressions of favorite TV stars in between routines and rehearsals.

"I would rather sing and dance than do anything. I couldn't believe it when the casting director of The New Mickey Mouse Club called and told me that I was chosen! It was like a dream come true for me."

That's Angelo Florez speaking. Talk about show business in his blood, Angelo's got it in his bones, his hair, and just about every part of him. "He lives and breathes the Club," his mother told us. "Every night when he comes home from the Studio, he goes straight to his room to play all the new songs and dances that he's recorded from the show. He's even teaching the little girls in the neighborhood some of the dance routines he's learned." Although Angelo had performed non-professionally since he was eight years old, he began formal dance lessons only two years ago. Soon, he was doing so well that his teacher suggested Angelo try out for the part of Mowgli, the Jungle Boy, in the Disneyland Christmas Parade. At the audition, Angelo was spotted by a television producer, who introduced him to a talent agent, who got him a job in a Pepsi commercial and a pilot episode of a television series. But the big break came last year, when Angleo auditioned for The New Mickey Mouse Club!

Off-camera at the Club, Angelo keeps his fellow mice in stitches with funny impressions of television stars, from Tony Orlando to Charo! Half Mexican-American and half Apache Indian, Angelo has recently taken a deep interest in his special ethnic and cultural background. He has decided to take Spanish in school, "To get back to my roots," as he puts it.

"We are proud of Angelo," says his father. "We speak Spanish at home, and now, for the first time in thirteen years, he is answering back in Spanish!"

On top of everything else, Angelo is an accomplished musician. He plays guitar, piano, and organ!
